Rock Drummers can be as fit as Top Athletes - it's official!

San Diego Drum Lessons recently received a question asking what my view is on drumming as a form of exercise. The best advice I could give was to refer to an official study that was done in 2008, which suggests that working drummers can be as fit as top athletes. For those of you interested in this study, here is the link to the BBC website.

For myself, I always try and do additional exercise though. I try to run at least four times a week, up to four miles in each session*. But, sitting in a teaching studio all day with occasional shows probably does not qualify me as a "working drummer" as described in the article. Certainly if you are touring, and playing at a high intensity most nights, then you could probably fall in the category of the musicians they are talking about in the article. Everyone else should still consider additional exercise.

Don't forget that mental health can be as important a consideration as physical health (and both are linked), and playing the drums is a proven way of reducing stress. So if you are looking for drum lessons in San Diego as a way of reducing stress, give me a call!

* My personal exercise regime is out of preference, and unrelated to drum set playing!
